Property containing a URL towards support site

Post30. Apr 2008, 13:10

Hi all,

Is it possible to create a property containing a URL towards the support site of the manufacturer of a device, allowing you to consult if it still is under support, download new drivers,....

example: For a dell device

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/do ... ag=xxxxxxx

the same can be done for HP / IBM

I tried this by adding a manual property field having the link as a value but you then need to add the "System Serial Number" yourself. Or can you include the property "System Serial Number" into the value?

Hello,

You can handle this by creating a taskpad view.
Create an analyse containing the System Serial Number column.

Do a right click on the analyse and perform the following actions

Select „New Taskpad view…“ -> „Next“ -> "Next" -> "Selected tree item"
-> „Give a name for the view e.g. Support Links“ -> „Next“ -> „Ok“ -> „Next“ -> „Shell command“
-> „Next“

Give the following values.

Command: iexplore
Parameters:http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=be&l=nl&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=du&catid=&impid=&ServiceTag=$COL<3>

Whereas $COL<3> will be replaced with the value of the 4th column of the selected item if you execute the task

-> „Next“

Select a Task name, for example Open Dell Support Page

-> „Next“ -> Select an Icon"-> „Next“ -> „Ok“.

Select a client from the query result having a system serial number and click on "Open Dell Support Page"

Now the browser should start with the appropriate URL. This example could be enhanced at will.
