ESX 4.1 VMs not showing

Post20. Jun 2013, 09:21

Hi,
I inventoried one of my linux ESX 4.1 host servers.
I expected that loginventory would show me the VMs running on that ESX host, but they do not show up.
Can anybody help me on this one?
Thanks

Have you carried out all the necessary configuration tasks described in the LOGINventory5 Installation Guide, chapter 9.4?
It will be show like this:

Hi,

I have done exactly what is written un der 9.4 on one of my ESX 4.1 servers.
The server is in the server overview, but the vms are not!

Attached you have some screen shots.
It's the server with the name ARVHESX09.

Stijn

Your Computer Description is: "Linux servername 2.6.18-164.ESX", which is not ESXi 4.1 (which is covered in chapter 9.4). It looks like you are running ESX 4.1 Classic.

Hi,

Thanks for investigating, but according to my information, vmware ESX 4.1 is Linux 2.6.18-164.ESX.
I found this on several forums on the internet.

The VMs will be read from VMware hosts via SNMP from .1.3.6.1.4.1.6876.2
You can also try this via command line if you have NetSNMP installed (using ReadCommunity "public"):
Code: Select all
snmpwalk -v 1 -c public 10.124.27.52 system
snmpwalk -v 1 -c public 10.124.27.52 .1.3.6.1.4.1.6876.2

If no data can be read, I guess it must be some kind of missing SNMP configuration.
Please have a look here: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2003845
And here: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsp_4_snmp_config.pdf

[Update:] Have you rebooted the ESX Server after making this configuration? For ESXi this seems to be neccessary.
