Duplicate Machine Information in DB

Post31. Aug 2009, 17:37

Any ideas as to why some machines are duplicating information from other machines on the network?

LOGINventory version = 4.5.7.0 / 1637
OS on LOGINventory PC = Server2003 SP2
OS on nodes = XP Pro SP3
Directory = AD
No recent changes
Remote Scanner

Thanks for your time.

What information is duplicated? More details please.

[Edit] You previously (2008) reported a corrupted database. What is the creation date of you database :?:

This DB is only a few weeks old (started over on August 27, 2009), but we still see a duplicate information issue for some machines:

The duplicate information is as follows:

System Product, System serial, Chassis Type, and all BIOS, Motherboard, CPU, Memory, and Processor information.

Also - User, O/S, and HAL info are all correct.

Thank you.

This sound like the WMI related problem we already fixed in build 1637.
Are you sure you are using LOGINfoR.exe v4.5.7.0 Build 1637?

Yes...we were using it when the errors were discovered and re-installed 4.5.7 (Build 1637) again last month.

File info:

LogInfoR.exe
File Version: 4.4.0.0
Description: PC Info
RELEASED Version 4.5.7.0 Build 1637

Problems like this are almost always caused by DNS (according to my signature).
Please control your DNS forward and reverse lookup zones on duplicate or invalid entries; WMI requires reliable data from here.

We have also investigated into a fix or workaround for this DNS+WMI related bug.
Next week we will have LOGINventory 5 Beta3 including such a fix. (Looks good on my PC...)

Some invalid / duplicate entries were indeed found = scavenging issue.....We are working on correcting and hoping to have things back to normal with our reporting soon.

Thanks Roland.
