Remote Access question

Post19. Apr 2010, 15:14

Hello,

I want to give several users viewing rights on the management console of Loginventory.
The situation:

Loginventory runs on a dedicated scan server. Administartors manage the tool and server.
The database is SQL 2005 and runs on the same server.
My users log on to a client network via a logonserver. From that server on they have to start the console.

Questions:

How do I install this option?
Whay userrights do the users need to have?
is there a manual how to do this?

Would like to here from you!

Kind Regards,

Jaap

1. Install (via custom SETUP) only those LOGINventory components they need
2. Install LOGINventory license
3. Configure same database

Possible MS-SQL database rights:
- db-reader: can only view
- db-writer: view + modify + delete
- db-owner: db-writer + may introduce new Manual Properties and Journal entries

Hello - IT! Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Next step: Check DNS.

Installing the mmc, licenses added, rights set on the SQL database, made the connection with the configuration tool (including the ok messages and the number of assets) but still in the mmc 20 free assets, and it seems that I still don't have a connection with sql.
We use MS Windows server 2008.
All .exe files are run as administrator with the highest privileges.

What can be the solution?

Kind regards,

Which LOGINventory version are you using?

If LMC displays "20 assets free version" - no license entry can be found.

Looks like the famous Windows 7 / Vista /2008 registry virtualization problem when having switched on UAC.
MMC always runs elevated - but not up to date versions of the License & Configuration tool did not - and so the license entry was virtualized in registry (i.e does not really exist in HKLM\Software\LOGIN for all users).

Remove license.
Start license tool again by right-clicking in start menu and selecting "Run as administrator".
